I use various eo's on and off, but I use Tea Tree oil for acne every day. Is Tea Tree safe to use everyday forever (I just dab it on the acne) or should I treat it like other eo's? Thanks! Stephanie

Hi Stephanie, Everything in moderation. It's probably not such a good idea to use the same eo over and over for long periods because even generally well-tolerated eo's contain components that may build up in the tissues of the body and become problematic at some undetermined point in the future. There's really not enough research to show exactly what happens to all the hundreds of individual components found in eo's once they enter the body - and there are several routes. Also the body tends to accommodate and acclamate to things it deals with every day. Microbes can very quickly adapt and become resistent to their environment and if your using Tea Tree every day for long periods, it may become less effective over time for your particular skin situation. So it's always good to have a number of 'plan B's'. There are a wide range of eo's suitable for the management of acne, and really you might like to find an aromatherapist or cosmetologist trained in aromatherapy to take a closer look at your skin and your daily routine for skincare. I have found personally, and through consultation with quite a number of students and clients, that a couple of blends of eo's that are selected for their therapeutic actions - such as antimicrobial, antiinflammatory and cicatrisant - and with your particular affinity in mind (i.e. you choose the final eo's in your blend because you like their fragrances best), are most effective when used in rotation of about 2 weeks at a time. Also add 2-4 drops of your blend to a tablespoon of dried milk powder or honey and add this to a bowl or sink of hot water. Take a clean face cloth and soak in the hot water. Then apply to your face and compress firmly and rhythmically until the heat is gone. Repeat 5-10 times each night. Add 20 - 30 drops of your eo blend to a 100 ml dark glass bottle with a pump dispenser top. Add about a tablespoon of pure Aloe Vera juice and top up with distilled water. Screw the top back on. Shake vigorously before each use. Remove eyewear and close eyes. Pump spritz your face as needed. This avoids the need for touching the affected area unecessarily but delivers a fine layer of antimicrobial and protective eo's to the skin - and hydrates and moisturizes at the same time. Auroma has an unscented, additive-free cleanser and moisturizer that are both purely plant-derived. Add your eo blend to this at the ratio of 2-5 drops per 15 ml or 1 tablespoon of base. Adjust the drops according to your perception. Hope this helps Best Carolyn
