I am looking for a remedy for plantars warts. I have been unable to find a recipe for such a problem. Any ideas?

Good afternoon Melody, Plantar warts are renowned for being really stubborn to most essential oils - bar the most aggressive and continued use over a significant period of time to be honest . I have personal anecdotal references for the use of Thuja occidentalis, and as support Kurt Schnaubelt also recommends its use for small warts - a drop applied topically he says - although I would suggest you'd have to use it regularly twice a day for at least 12 weeks. Advanced Aromatherapy, page 114. Other effective oils he suggests are Thymus vulgaris the thujanol type - although I've not found this chemotype easy to get hold of. You could try the thymol or carvacrol 'red' thyme types instead. Also since most wart removers contain salicylic acid and somtimes up to 40%! - then you could try either Betula lenta - Sweet birch, or Gaultheria procumbens - Wintergreen, which can contain up to 98% methyl salicylate. Bear in mind though that the methyl salicylate is an ester and a different biochemical synthesis than the associated salicylic acid. Julia Lawless recommends Cinammon leaf oil - so the Cinnamomum zeylanicum oil but not the bark oil and also Tagetes minuta with the main component tagetones. As with all of these 'aggressive' oils there are some potential hazard warnings for use. Also please consider that you'd be applying these oils in a very localized manner - a couple of drops at a time - and you really do need a highly potent blend to do the job effectively. Hope this helps Best Carolyn
